Building Sustainable Healthcare Systems
Although we currently conduct annual medical and surgical missions, our goal goes far beyond short-term care. We have trusted partners on the ground who help us identify needs, coordinate patient care, and maintain a connection with the communities we serve throughout the year. Our long-term vision is to help build sustainable healthcare systems that improve access to quality care, particularly for children and mothers.
A major part of this vision is the establishment of a first-of-its-kind, state-of-the-art pediatric hospital in Siaya County, with a dedicated maternal health wing. We envision a place where children can receive specialized medical and surgical care closer to home, while mothers and newborns also have access to the quality care they need. Under 5 and maternal mortality rates remain staggering in Siaya County.
We are also working with Matibabu Hospital in Ukwala, Siaya to strengthen care for noncommunicable diseases such as hypertension and diabetes by developing systems for early detection, treatment, and long-term follow-up. Access to medications remains a major challenge, especially in public health settings where even basic pharmaceuticals can be a luxury. We help bridge this gap by supplying essential medications so that patients are not only diagnosed, but have access to the treatment they need.
