Surgical Care
Our surgical missions prioritize high-impact, life-changing procedures. In Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), an estimated 93% of the population cannot access timely, safe, affordable surgical and anesthesia care.
This means even simple, life-saving procedures such as emergency cesarean sections, treatment of appendicitis or traumatic injuries, hernia repairs, are out of reach for the vast majority.
The huge backlog of unmet surgical need (hundreds of millions of procedures) means many people live with disabilities, untreated injuries, chronic pain, or life-threatening conditions which could be corrected if surgical care were available.
For children: the need for tens of millions of pediatric surgeries implies many lifelong disabilities, lost potential, and avoidable deaths just because of missing access.
